General Information

School Hours

The School office is attended between the hours of 8.15am and 3.30pm during term time.

School staff are on site from 8.20am to 3.30pm with School commencing at 8.40am.

Recess is held between 10.55am and 11.20am.

Lunch is held between 12.50pm and 1.40pm.

Classes are dismissed at 2.50pm.

After Hours Care

After hours care at John Paul II is operated by CatholicCare Tasmania. Care is provided on site and features an enclosed outdoor play area designed to engage young learners. After School Care is provided until 6.00pm.

Working with Vulnerable People

New laws designed to reduce the likelihood of harm and create safer environments for all children and vulnerable people have been enacted in Tasmania. The Registration to Work with Vulnerable People Act 2013 (the Act) makes it compulsory for many people who associate with children and other vulnerable people to be registered to Work with Vulnerable People. To comply with the Act, Catholic Education in Tasmania (CET) requires School Support employees, volunteers and external providers to be registered to Work with Vulnerable People.

School Banking

School banking is available for students and conducted at John Paul II through the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. Please contact the School Office for an application form.

Book Lists

Book lists are provided to students and items may be purchased from Officeworks or the store of your choice.


The following buses are available to students:

  • Lauderdale - operated by Metro
  • Rokeby - operated by Metro
  • South Arm - operated by Metro
  • John Paul II School Bus
  • Families must ensure that they support the Bus Policy when using these services.


The School canteen operates on Thursdays during lunchtime only. The canteen is staffed by parent volunteers. At the beginning of each term parents who would like to participate in the running of the canteen are invited to indicate when they would be available to help. Counter sales are also available on these days with spending limits imposed on various items.


Insurance coverage through Catholic Church Insurances is provided for all students when involved in school activities.
